Outside the Box: Living with Autism
Are you someone from the autism community? Living with autism, on the spectrum, autistic, family member of, work for, or friends with someone in the autism community?
If so, you are invited to contribute your visual art, writing, photography, audio, or video compositions exploring the theme Outside the Box during Autism Awareness Month this October. Throughout the month of October, your contributions will be uploaded to this page to showcase the diversity and creativity in the autism community. At the end of October, all contributions will create a dedicated Outside the Box: Autism Awareness Living Library site that will always be available for the community to access and enjoy.
Please email your contributions to programming@nflibrary.ca with Outside the Box in the subject line. Submissions will be accepted from Saturday October 1st through Monday October 31st.
This project was conceived in collaboration with Eve Atoms, a local poet who wants to create more awareness and acceptance of autism in her community. Eve received a microgrant from the Niagara Falls Cultural Development Fund to produce an audio poetry chapbook about her life with her son. Her work, entitled “On a Ray of Sunshine”, takes listeners on an outdoor journey through Niagara as she reflects on the challenges and wonderment of living with someone who communicates without words. Her piece will be featured on the Outside the Box Living Library page this October along with other contributions received from the community.
