Most known for being the first ski instructor in the Laurentians, as well as a pioneer for the sport in Canada. After immigrating to Canada he opened the first ski centre in Quebec, the Chalet Cochand. He helped to found the Laurentian Resorts Association which contributed to local tourism, pushed for train tourism with the US and pioneered some of the first skiing chair-lifts in Canada . When Emile eventually retired he moved to Niagara Falls and took up oil painting.
