- en-CA Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation Government of Canada Local Initiatives Grant AK 2403-9 1974 - 1975 ; research by George Seibel ; The expansion of railway passenger service in the 1870's brought thousands of people to Niagara Falls on excursions, creating a whole new market for a Maid of the Mist boat trip. In 1884 R. F. Carter and Frank LeBlond, two enterprising citizens of Clifton, invested ten thousand dollars in a new Maid of the Mist. This boat, the third, was built at the deck on the Canadian side, where it launched in 1885. A sister ship was built on the U.S. side in 1892 ; photograph in the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society ;
