Description
en-CA Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation Government of Canada Local Initiatives Grant AK 2403-9 1974 - 1975 ; research by George Seibel ; This building of stone was built in 1859 - 1860 at a cost in excess of $150,000. The grounds adjoining the Museum contained an elaborate garden. Sir Richard Bonnycatle wrote at the time "the only pretty thing on the British side is the Museum ...the result of the indefatigable labours of Mr Barnett. He has gathered together a most interesting collection of animals, shells, coins etc., and has added a garden in which grow all of the choicest plants and flowers of North America and Britain, the English holly, the box, the heath, the ivy; and there is a willow from the St Helena stock all watered by the incessant spray of the Great Fall" excerpted from Anthology and Bibliography of Niagara Falls by Dow ;
