en-CA Niagara Falls Heritage Foundation Government of Canada Local Initiatives Grant AK 2403-9 1974 - 1975 ; Artistic recreation based on the orignal by James Cockburn at the Royal Ontario Museum Toronto ; Research by George Seibel ; " On May 24th 1795 Mrs Simcoe wrote in her diary "Mr Pilkington was desired to place ladders to form a stairway down the bank". This recreation of Cockburn's sketch of the ladder shows how the original might have been. The ladder was fastened securely to a tree by hoopsof iron and anchored firmly amid rocks at the lower end." excerpted from "Niagara Falls Canada : a History" published 1967, page 281"
