Description
Doug Caverson was a natural athlete and found success in many different sports. However, he was exceptionally good in the sport of hockey and at one point in his career, was offered the opportunity to play in the Eastern Professional Hockey League.
From 1946 to 1949, Doug played for the Niagara Falls Mangs Intermediate team, and as he continued to grow, so did his hockey career. He went on to experience success with the 1956 Stamford Kerrio Senior 'B' Hockey Team, and the 1957 Niagara Falls Senior 'B' Motorville Rockets, where both teams advanced to the Ontario Championship Finals.
Doug added co-founder to his list of accomplishments, when he assisted in forming the Niagara Rainbows Senior 'B' OHA Hockey Club. In addition, Doug was an invaluable player and was the club's Vice-President.
After 20 years of playing hockey, Doug retired and began coaching. He has coached his children and grandchildren and has also sat on the committee of two sport history books titled "100 Year of Sport in Niagara Falls". Doug Caverson was a well-rounded athlete and a great contributor to the growth of sport in the City of Niagara Falls.
