Description
Phil Mazzone was a revered teacher and mentor during his career as an educator at NFCVI (Niagara Falls Collegiate Vocational Institute) and A.N. Myer Secondary School. His teaching position with the District School Board of Niagara (formerly Niagara South Board of Education) was dedicated to helping students make decisions about schools and programs to further their education. He was also instrumental in assisting more than 150 students in seeking athletic scholarships, aside from his teaching obligations.
Post teaching, Phil started a consulting business that became involved with the Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA) where he designated, developed, and implemented a very successful Career Enhancement Program (CEP) for professional hockey players. This program prepared and assisted players into a new career once their hockey playing days were over. He helped over 820 active players and alumni through this program. Phil received the PHPA Curt Leichner Distinguished Member Award for the success of the CEP. This award is presented annually to a member of the hockey community that has made a significant contribution to the betterment of professional minor league hockey.
In 2012, Phil became the first person in the Builder's category to be induced into the A.N. Myer Athletes Wall of Distinction. The Phil Mazzone Sports Complex at A.N. Myer Secondary School, was opened in 2016, and named after Phil for his extraordinary dedicated to sports.
Phil's achievements and athletic endeavors have earned him a well-deserved place on the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame.
