Description
John Arbour dedicated many years of his life to the sport of ice hockey. He displayed his knowledge and skills of the game in an admirable way while playing for Stamford Minor Hockey All-Star Teams. His exceptional talents as a defensemen contributed immensely, in particular to the Fallsview Firemen Major "A" Midget Team winning the All-Ontario Championship in the 1961-62 season.
The following four years John was stalwart on defense for the Niagara Falls Flyer Major Junior "A" Team. While there, his team went to two Memorial Cup finals, winning the Canadian Championship in the 1964-65 season.
Graduating from Junior Hockey, John played professionally 106 games in the National Hockey League for Boston, Pittsburgh, Vancouver and St. Louis. He played 335 games in the World Hockey Association (WHA) for Minnesota, and Calgary. John also played in the American Hockey League (AHL) for Baltimore, as well as in the Central Hockey League (CHL) for Oklahoma City Blazers "Adams Cup" Championship Team. In addition, John played in the Western Hockey League (WHL) in Vancouver, where the team won the championship, winning the Lester Patrick Cup.
John had a commendable career. Described in hockey terms as a "stay-at-home" defenseman, he also contributed to his team's offensive on a regular basis. His addition to the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame is well deserved.
