Description

David (Dave) Conte's minor hockey and baseball years, played at the all-star levels in Niagara Falls, were well documented in the local newspapers. As a baseball player, he represented Canada in the American Legion National Baseball Championship. A skilled athlete, David became a prominent player on the Stamford Bruins Jr. "B" Hockey team that won the Ontario Hockey Association (O.H.A.) Niagara District Championship in the 1966-67 season. After accepting a hockey scholarship at Colgate University, Dave won the Silver Puck Award, and in his senior year was named Most Valuable Player. Dave completed his playing career with professional teams in Finland and Italy in the mid 1970's.
Dave's attention turned to scouting hockey players, and he became the Assistant Scouting Director with the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (N.H.L.). After a five year stint with the Capitals, he joined the New Jersey Devils of the N.H.L., as the Director of Scouting, and later became the Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations. During Dave's 31 years with the Devils, he received Stanley Cup rings for each of the three Stanley Cup Championships (1995, 2000, 2003), and had his name engraved on the cup. Dave moved on from the Devils to become Special Advisor of Operations with the N.H.L. expansion team in Las Vegas. Following this role, he accepted a special assignment scouting job with the New York Islanders of the N.H.L.
During Dave's successful career, he has been involved with drafting close to 200 N.H.L. players who have won numerous Stanley Cups, totaling 44 championship rings.
Dave's tireless work ethic and superior knowledge of the sport of hockey has made him a very worthy member of the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame.
