Walter Hamilton; son of Helen (nee Wight) and John Dickson; brother of Robert, John Jr., Alexander, Thomas and Walter; 1784 emigrated to Canada; founder of Guelph and Township of Dumfries; ca. 1790 built 1st brick house in Niagara; 1797 member of Law Society; Nov. 1815 Member of Legislative Council; settled in Niagara district; cousin of Hon. Robert Hamilton; 1800-1820 member of Niagara Library; Agricultural Society; 1803 license to practice law at provincial bar; frequently acted as Justice of the Peace or a Judge in District Court;
