en-CA b. 1778 (Fifeshire, Scotland); d. 1863 (Edinburgh); 1807 married; went to Wiltshire, England as tenant of Duke of Somerset; June 1817 arrived in Canada; 1818 arrested, jailed and acquitted in Kingston; 1818 arrested, tried and acquitted in Brockville; Jan 1819 arrested and jailed; Aug 1819 exiled from Canada to return to England; 1822 published his “Statistical Account of Upper Canada” in London; 1834 returned to the States; 1838 returned to Canada;
