At the shore foot under the fall is a place called Cave of the Winds, formed by thirty feet of projecting limestone that had resisted the action of the corroding waters while the shady substratum directly under the ledge has been eaten away. The so-called cave is one hundred feet in height and sixty feet in depth and can be reached by a perpendicular winding stairway from Goat Island. The cave derives it name from the constant pressure of the atmosphere caused by the reflex of the falling water resembles a storm of great violence ; -

In photo: (left to right): Rick Oreskovich, Joe Oreskovich and Stan Reid. Rick Oreskovich, Joe Oreskovich and Stan Reid are founders of the Niagara Regional Minor Football Association (Football Niagara) which began early in 1999 and is presently going into its 15th season. Dedicated and continued involvement over these years with Rick as President, Past president and Director for Niagara Falls, Joe as Treasurer and Sponsorship Director, Stan as Parks and Scheduling Director make these three men greatly responsible for its continued success and for maintaining the basic philosophy of the league: To promote the concepts of self-discipline, team spirit, sportsmanship, safety and above all to have fun. They have each coached several teams in the league and each has worked hard to develop and maintain a positive working relationship between Football Niagara and the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Rick was the recipient of the Doug Austin Award in 1999 and the McMaster University High School Coach of the year in 2009. Over 8000 young people, 7-14 years of age have played for Football Niagara. Many received individual awards for their involvement in high school football and rugby. Many also went on to play football and rugby at the university level including four young men from Niagara Falls who received Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All Star Awards and three of those who also received Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All Star Awards. The contribution these men have made to the youth of Niagara for the past 15 years is immeasurable. -

Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame - Louise Pietrangelo Athlete Women's Hockey 1991 - Present Era Louise Pietrangelo began skating at the age of four and quickly fell in love with the ice. Although she was a precocious member of the Stamford Skating Club, the solitary life of a figure skater did not excite Louise as much as the team-based sport of ice hockey. At the age of five, Louise enrolled in Instructional Hockey and from that point on she showed rapid growth in her skills. She was chosen at the age of seven to play on an All Star Team and soon after that at the age of nine she captained the boys “AA” Travel Hockey Team that went on to play at the All Ontario Finals of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association. At the age of fifteen, Louise continued to play boy’s house league hockey to keep her skills competitive but also played girl’s hockey whose team won the Niagara District Championship in her first year. In Louise’s next season with the Niagara Rapids Girls Hockey Team, she represented Niagara Falls at the Ontario Winter Games as captain and won a silver medal. Louise went on to play for the Mississauga Junior Chiefs and during her 1998-1999 season, her team won second place in the league and Louise was awarded Best Defenseman. One of her greatest achievements as the starting defenseman that same year was when she was named to Team Ontario and won the Gold Medal at the Canada Winter Games. She advanced to the senior level and on to win a Bronze medal at the Provincial Championships. Louise went on to accepting a full four year scholarship to Dartmouth University where she was starter on a team that was ranked number one in the nation ; -

Electric Power Plants, Niagara Falls(Reverse Side) Under an agreement between the United States and Canada, a certain amount of water power nature created at Niagara Falls is available for industrial use. Many branches of industries requiring electric power at low rates have sprung into existence and in comparatively short time developed into wonderful enterprises that at this time particularly become centres of industry of national importance. Scientific products needed in many lines of manufacture, especially in the metal industry which this country before largely imported, are now manufactured at Niagara Falls. The carborundum is one of the best known of these products. many electric railway lines in the vicinity of Niagara Falls are supplied with electricity from central stations at Niagara Falls. The city of Toronto, Canada, and most of the towns surrounding Niagara are supplied with electric light and power at low cost from Niagara Falls. -
