Ruins of the Clifton Hotel after the fire December 31 1932 - firemen still in action The fire began in the north wing next to the Lafayette Hotel, very early in the morning and spread through the inside of the hotel attic ; in this view taken 3 days after the fire began firemen are still pouring water onto the embers in the west wing where the fire began. The square building showing over the top of the ruins in the centre is the United Office building located across the Niagara River in Niagara Falls New York ; -

Ruins of the Clifton Hotel after the fire December 31 1932 The fire began in the north wing next to the Lafayette Hotel, very early in the morning and spread through the inside of the hotel attic ; this view shows the west wing which ran along Clifton Hill. The fire was not extinguished until it had reached the end of this wing. Parts of the rooms and some furniture was all that remained. When the ashes cooled local citizens searched through them and many homes in Niagara Falls have crockery and tableware items which were salvaged. -
