Frank started off his hockey career with Niagara Falls, but was then offered a position on the first junior A team in St. Catharines, the Falcons. Frank scored the first St. Catharines junior A goal in the Garden City Arena, and the Falcons finished the season first place in their division. Frank played professional hockey in the American, East Coast, and Pacific Hockey Leagues from 1944- 1947. He came back to Ontario and was a key player on various Senior A and Senior B teams up until 1953. Frank Long used his many years of hockey experience and expertise to coach the Niagara Falls juvenile AAA team from 1972- 79. During the 1980’s Frank was an active member of the Niagara Falls Curling Club, and in 2006 Frank authored “A Century of Sports in Niagara Falls”. Upon graduation from A.N. Myer Secondary School, Barry enrolled at the University of Western Ontario and was a member of the varsity football and basketball teams for 1961-1964. Jarrod Skalde - Athlete - Hockey - 1991 - Present Era, 2012 Sports Wall of Fame Inductee 2012 Sports Wall of Fame Inductee. Jarrod Skalde was born on February 26, 1971 in Niagara Falls Ontario, and was soon seen as an asset in the hockey world. Skalde started his hockey career in 1990 with the Oshawa Generals of the OHL. He was able to taste his first victory by winning the Memorial Cup on May 13, 1990 in front of 17,383 spectators in Copps Coliseum against the Kitchener Rangers in a score of 4-3. As a hockey player, Skalde was part of six different hockey leagues, and part of 25 teams throughout his career. Skalde was first drafted by the New Jersey Devils, in the 1989 NHL draft. He continued to be a part of various leagues such as the OHL, NHL, IHL, AHL, SEL (Swiss Elite League) and the Austrian EBEL (Erste Bank Eishockey Liga). Over the years, Skalde was part of multiple teams, however, the team he returned to three times was the Utah Grizzlies of the IHL. With the Grizzlies, Skalde was the recipient of the Grizzlies Community Man of the Year Award. When asked by coaches or teammates, Skalde was described as a great team mate who could play any position. He was known for being a leader as well as a threat on the ice to the opposition. A highlight of his career was the winning goal scored in 2:56 minutes of overtime for Anaheim, beating Curtis Joseph in front of 17,000 fans to down the St. Louis Blues 2-1. Skalde retired from the game of hockey with 301 goals, 507 assists and 1,023 games. He then decided to get into the world of coaching and was offered the Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach position for the Prairie Thunder. In August 2010, after two seasons, Skalde stepped down as Director and Head Coach of Bloomington to take over the position of Head Coach in Cincinnati with the Cyclones of the East Coast Hockey League. -

An inspired Stamford High School Basketball Team became the Cinderella team of a most hectic and closely contested senior boys' All Ontario Basketball Tournament. Stamford had earlier been defeated by Niagara Falls Collegiate in the District final but had been given a bye into the championship as the Niagara District representative. Once in the tournament, they rolled to an unexpected but well earned championship. On their way to victory, the Hornets defeated Ottawa Lisgar 65- 47 and then moved into the semi-final with a previously undefeated team from Toronto Northern Vocational. They upset Toronto 43- 40 and were into the finals. In the championship game, Stamford was matched against defending champion Windsor Patterson High School. Both teams were weary from the afternoon semi-finals and played cautious basketball most of the way. The game was tied 24-24 at the half but Stamford pulled away at the end for the 54-47 victory. It was a wild and emotional celebration for the Stamford fans who were there in abundance at the old arena on Victoria Ave. The championship was a perfect ending to a wonderful basketball season. -

Dedicated and continued involvement over these years with Rick as President, Past president and Director for Niagara Falls, Joe as Treasurer and Sponsorship Director, Stan as Parks and Scheduling Director make these three men greatly responsible for its continued success and for maintaining the basic philosophy of the league: To promote the concepts of self-discipline, team spirit, sportsmanship, safety and above all to have fun. They have each coached several teams in the league and each has worked hard to develop and maintain a positive working relationship between Football Niagara and the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Rick was the recipient of the Doug Austin Award in 1999 and the McMaster University High School Coach of the year in 2009. Over 8000 young people, 7-14 years of age have played for Football Niagara. Ray McGibbon Ray McGibbon began boxing around the age of 15 and his boxing career led him to box in Madison Square Gardens and Maple Leaf Gardens. In 1946, Ray was a Golden Gloves finalist. The same year, Ray and his brother John established the St. Patrick’s Boxing Gym. In the late 1970's, Ray McGibbon started the Niagara Falls Boxing Club with John Degazio. Through the years, Ray coached many champions. He was part of the 1983 and 1984 Ontario Boxing Championships, when the Niagara Falls Boxing Gym won the Trophy for Most Outstanding Team, winning eight gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal. Ray coached many boxers who became Ontario and Canadian Champions and Olympians including Tom"The Bomb" Glesby and Billy"the Kid"Irwin. Ray also coached Brian Kelly and Mike Strange, both former Inductees of the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame. Each year, the St. Catharines Boxing club hosts the “Ray McGibbon’s Gloves Tournament”, named after Ray McGibbon. This tournament is a stepping stone for many amateur boxers to advance their competitive careers as boxers from across Ontario contend for the coveted title. Ray is known by his boxers as being an “old school coach” and would spar with his fighters regularly, even though he was in his fifties or sixties. Ray still drops by the gym and lends a hand to his former boxes, Bill Irwin and Mike Strange, who are now coaches. Ray’s legacy will be brought to young boxers for years to come as his old school boxing techniques will be passed down from generation to generation! -
