- en-CA Steve Trotter, a 22 year old part-time bartender from Barrington, Rhode Island went over the Horseshoe Falls on August 18, 1985. His device was made of 2 plastic pickle barrels surrounded by large innertubes and covered by taraplin. This photo shows Trotter and his device by the Maid of the Mist dock after his successful plunge.plunge. The Niagara Falls Review said "Trotter emerged from his home-made rubber barrel moments after making the 55 metre (180 feet drop) at 8:03 a.m.. Mr. Trotter was uninjured except for a small scratch on his right arm..."
