Locks 4, 5, 6 at Thorold, Ontario, Canada The St. Lawrence Seaway in the broadest sense, is a huge water-way extending 2,3000 miles from the Atlantic Ocean to the head of the Great Lakes in the heart of North America. Niagara Falls Dewatered The International Joint Commission of the United States & Canada is currently engaged in a study of the American Channel of Niagara Falls. The channel will be dry during the summer and fall of 1969. This study is to determine what measures, if any, would be required to preserve and enhance the scenic beauty of the American Falls. No actual work to clear away talus or reinforce the cliff will be done at this time. Pictured here are the Falls in its natural condition and dewatered. -

Outarde of O & O Lines at Robin Hood Mills, Port Colborne, Ontario It's a familiar sight to residents of Port Colborne. A ship sitting by the Robin Hood Flour Mills at the Lake Erie entrance to the Welland canal. A late bloomer when compared to some settlements in Niagara, the place we now call Port Colborne had its beginning in 1832 as Gravely Bay when the Second Welland Canal reached Lake Erie. Not long after that a proper town site was laid out and the name changed to Port Colborne in honour of Sir John Colborne, Govenor of Canada at the time. Port Colborne is also the site of one of the world's largest lift locks. the Welland Canal's Lock 8. -

Cripps Eddy, at the bottom left, still has water/ The narrowness of the gorge and the glen rapids are clearly shown. Devil's hole, the dark indentation just to the right of the Y in the road on the American side is visible, and the Devil's Hole rapids in the river to the right of the Devil's Hole. The Ontario Hydro access road, the white slash across the top right of the picture was built in early 1950 to provide access to the construction site for the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station Number 2. -
