- en-CA Original held in the collection of Earl W Brydges Public Library, Niagara Falls, New York ; Between November 1871 and March 1872, the Canadian Tower was enclosed "The northern, southern and western sides of the edifice are covered with corrugated iron as a protection against the possible attack of the fiery fiend from the land. The eastern side - that looking toward the bridge is covered in wood, in perfect imitation of the other surfaces. The whole is painted in a light drab colour" Niagara Falls Gazette July 10 1872. Inside stairways and an Otis elevator were installed, powered by steam. The engine which controlled the car was situated under the Lower landing of the elevator. The steam boiler was in a very neat brick building (seen to the right of the tower) and steam was communicated to the engine by means of a long pipe connected with the boiler passing through the masonry at the base of the tower... - George Seibel ;
