- 6120 Main St - Allan House corner of Main and Robinson St
- Description
- en-CA William Allan arrived in Canada from Scotland circa 1790. He lived in this house for some time. It was sold in 1853 and Mr Allan moved to Toronto. He had an illustrious career. He served during the War of 1812 and was present at the Battle of Queenston Heights. In 1821 he became the first President of the Bank of Upper Canada and in 1833 first President of the British American Assurance Company. He was appointed to the Legislative Council in 1825 and to the Executive Council in 1836. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Welland Canal Company and in 1832 he was one of a group of citizens who planned to create a city at the site of the Falls ;
