- en-CA Throughout the 1980’s, after being drafted to the National Hockey League by the Montreal Canadiens, Larry Landon played professional hockey in the American Hockey League as well as the NHL for both Montreal and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Prior to his professional career, the Niagara Falls native spent his minor hockey years in the Falls playing on a number of successful teams. He set a record for points in a single season with the Niagara Falls Jr. ‘B’ Canucks before playing for the St. Catharines Blackhawks of the Ontario Major Junior Hockey League. From 1977 to 1981, he played NCAA hockey for the RPI Engineers on a hockey scholarship and experienced much success as not only a top scorer, but as team Captain for three seasons. In 1993, Landon was elected as Executive Director of the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA). He relocated the PHPA office from Portland, Oregon to St. Catharines, Ontario, and in 2010, orchestrated the purchase of an office building in the heart of Niagara Falls to serve as the permanent home of the PHPA. More than 90 percent of NHL players are first represented by the PHPA at the minor league level before advancing to the NHL. Larry Landon has been an influential fixture in the professional hockey community since 1981, from his time as a player through his position as Executive Director of the PHPA, helping countless professional hockey players and their families secure a better way of life.
