- en-CA On July 9 1960 a boat ride turned tragic when Jim Honeycutt and Roger and Deanne Woodward were swept into the fast moving water of the Upper rapids. Deanne was swept toward Goat Island and rescued by a tourist. Jim Honeycutt and Roger were swept to the brink of the Horseshoe Falls and over. Honeycutt disappeared but Roger survived to be rescued by the crew of the Maid of the Mist. Roger Woodward was the first person to survive the Horseshoe Falls without a protective capsule. He was only seven years old at the time.
