New Falls View Upper Suspension Bridge
Description
NSB-3
en-CA Original in the private collection of Thomas D Mahoney, Buffalo, New York ; ...the bridge was officially opened on January 2nd 1869. On October 21st 1868 the Niagara Falls Gazette reported "work on the New Suspension Bridge was so far advanced that people crossed on Thursday. On Friday, a party of several gentlemen passed over on a neighbourly call on Messrs Bromely and Shears (proprietors of the Clifton House). A few boards constitute the roadway at present. The engineer, Mr Keefer, says he will require about a month to place the bridge in passable condition for the public." A hack driver with his horse drawn sleigh wait at the bridge, perhaps the three people in the foreground have just alighted from his sleigh - George Seibel ;
