- Clifton Hotel in background ; "At the request of Delos deWolf, vice president of the Suspension Bridge Company, Samuel Keefer carried the Chinese Ambassador who was visiting Niagara Falls, over and back along the carrier rope. Samuel Keefer reported "His celestial highness was delighted with sublimity of the view and the novelty of the adventure. This working platform was one of teh buggies used to carry workmen as they gave the cable wires a second coat of paint before they were clamped in cable form" ; excerpted from Bridges over the Niagara Gorge by George Seibel ;
