en-CA Carol Ann began her skating career on the outdoor ice at Lundy’s Lane Fire Hall. When Stamford Arena opened in 1950, Carol was one of the first skaters to take to the ice under the tutelage of Rita (Sturch) Payne. Thus, began a successful figure skating career as a singles skater as well as a pairs skater. As a single, Carol Ann placed third at the Western Ontario Senior Ladies Championship in 1958. She then proceeded to the Canadian Championships held in Ottawa where she placed in the top ten in Canada. Carol Ann’s pairs partner was Bill Neale under the coaching of Wally Distelmeyer. They were crowned Western Ontario Champions in 1958 and then captured a bronze medal only two and a half points behind the winners at the Canadian Championships.
