Title
On the great white mountain, winter and ice at Niagara Falls
Description
from a stereo image by Strohmeyer and Wyman
en-CA This shows one of the Sunday crowds which used to frequent the ice bridge in the 1890s. Sunday train excursions would bring thousands of people to Niagara Falls on a one day trip, the ice bridge being the main attraction. They would come from cities like Cleveland, Syracuse, Rochester, New York and Philadelphia. The people shown here in the foreground, are well out in the river, in front of the Ice Mountain, they slid down on wood, cardboard or just the seat of their trousers. The figure in the left foreground is pulling a sleigh.
