en-CA “A young man named Charles Percy on September 16 attempted to shoot the Niagara Rapids in a small boat. The boat capsized directly after starting, and Percy was thought to be lost. He, however, rose again, and skillfully avoiding the obstructions in the way, finally landed safely in the Devil’s Pool, having performed a feat never before accomplished.” Illustrated London News (England) – 6 October 1888
