Francis J. Petrie was for many years the City Historian of Niagara Falls, as well as the author of a regular newspaper column in the Niagara Falls Review.
After his death many of his photographs, negatives, slides, and postcards were donated to the Library.

Say ask them at home if they want me to come home Monday night. Send me a card on the noon train. Remember this place? I will be home Monday eve for sure I think" ;
Card was mailed in Ontario (date and place not readable) to Miss Balthazar, 62 Holland Park, London W, England ; message reads "I have been unable to write you earlier owing to lack of funds for stamps etc. Have just saved 1 1/2d today so am doing so. I leave for Chicago tonight after seeing the Falls. Love to all CB" ;
Card was mailed in Crystal Beach on July 15th 1954 to Mr & Mrs J Stienforth, 14 2nd Ave, Franklinville, NY ; message reads "Hello folks, we came over to Canada on this boat today. Florence & Floyd" ;
