Francis J. Petrie was for many years the City Historian of Niagara Falls, as well as the author of a regular newspaper column in the Niagara Falls Review.
After his death many of his photographs, negatives, slides, and postcards were donated to the Library.

Card was mailed in North Bay in 1905 to Miss Ada L Packer, Niagara Falls South, Ontario ; message reads "Ada, the train is 45 minutes late. Mother has just made me acquainted with a young lady from Washago who has promised to show me the James Bay Railroad site if I go that way next week. Are you ? Bob" ; on the white space at the bottom of the card is written "where I was not christened" ;
The card was mailed in 1912 ? on October 7th to L G H Pattison Esq., Winona, Ontario ; message reads "Dear Mr Pattison, You must come and see our most wonderful crop of apples. ? The snow apples here are bent to the ground simply loaded with fruit, much larger apples. We were quite proud of them. Love to all formally. Yours truly M K"

I have been very busy but will have some spare time soon. I hope I will write more. I like place fine, come & see us. Card was mailed in Niagara-on-the-Lake May 30th 1914 to Miss Helen Mauson, Lake Lawn, Grimsby, Ont ; message reads "I have just heard your mother is in Toronto. If it would be better for me to come later, first drop me a card and it will be all right. I hope it is nothing serious and she will soon be well again. It will make no difference to my plans so do not hesitate to say. Love S Mc M" ;
