Wintergreen Terrace This is the dry crest of the western branch of the first falls at the Glen. It was abandoned when the main eastern falls which flowed on the other side of the island which existed off Wintergreen point, cut into its bed at Cripps Eddy. This cut off the flow of water, drying up the river bed, which was higher then its eastern branch. The former river bed is now the Wintergreen Flats picnic area at the Glen. -

Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame - Don MacArthur Athlete Auto Racing era 1900 - 1970 Born Donald Rhodes MacArthur (December 13, 1928 - January 25, 2006) in a little town outside of Sudbury called O’Donell that now no longer exists. Don MacArthur moved to the Niagara area when he was about three years old and lived in Chippawa for the rest of his life. In 1946, Don MacArthur married Carol (Willick) and together they raised their two children, Rick and Sue, and enjoyed the company of five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Don, known to many as “Mac”, worked for the Norton Company and the Bridge Commission before starting an apprenticeship with J Course Signs to learn the art of lettering signs. Mac later had his own business, MacArthur Signs, which he operated until 2005. In the 1960's, Mac started pinstriping, custom painting motorcycles, and designing and laying out of paint jobs on custom hot rods. In 1957, Mac and some of his good friends started the Satan’s Car Club. The club was formed to build a dragster for competition and to promote safety at the drag strip and on public roads. They even had an O.P.P. officer, Ewart Edlington, as an advisory member. The dragster, designed and driven by Mac, was built by all the members of the Satan’s Car Club. On their first time out to the drag strip, they broke the Canadian speed record for the quarter mile and over the next five years broke and reset it many more times. In the early 60's, Mac held many records in the U.S. and Canada, and won the Canadian championship twice. In 1961, Mac was invited to the “Dinner of Champions” by the Councils of the City of Niagara Falls, the Township of Stamford, and the Village of Chippawa, to be given official recognition for persons who had achieved outstanding awards in 1960. Mac enjoyed anything mechanical. He not only drove and designed a very competitive and safe dragster, but built many street rods, custom motorcycles, and even an airplane that was flown for 28 years. Forever #1. -
Toth, Deborah Deborah Toth is a 4th Degree Black Belt in Karate who trained in Martial Arts for almost 40 years and made a huge impact on the art and profession. Truly a trailblazer, Deborah’s contribution to developing and raising the quality of Martial Arts locally, provincially, and nationally is unmatched. She trained with the best in North America and brought these masters and their knowledge back to Niagara on a consistent basis, elevating especially Canadian Goju Ryu Karate. Deborah created and developed programs that she taught throughout Niagara Region. She taught countless women the skills to remain safe and feel empowered with her female-centered Women’s Self Defense program and enriched the lives of many seniors with her popular Chair Tai Chi program. She taught professionally at her martial arts school in Niagara for 33 years, mentoring men, women, and children and ingraining skills and confidence. Integral to her approach is values-based learning, with emphasis on respect, compassion, gratitude, and community service. Deborah has been an active community builder and volunteer for over 40 years. She donated memberships, created a Martial Arts Scholarship, and volunteered her time coaching (including two stints as coach with Team Canada). Her passion is activism against gender-based violence and she continues to give her time and attention to this and other causes. Deborah is now retired but her legacy lives on in the art and profession and more importantly to her, in the lives of the many students that she has mentored. -

Rick Oreskovich, Joe Oreskovich and Stan Reid - Builders- Football - 1991- Present Era, 2012 Sports Wall Of Fame Inductees 2012 Sports Wall of Fame Inductees. In photo: (left to right): Rick Oreskovich, Joe Oreskovich and Stan Reid. Rick Oreskovich, Joe Oreskovich and Stan Reid are founders of the Niagara Regional Minor Football Association (Football Niagara) which began early in 1999 and is presently going into its 15th season. Dedicated and continued involvement over these years with Rick as President, Past president and Director for Niagara Falls, Joe as Treasurer and Sponsorship Director, Stan as Parks and Scheduling Director make these three men greatly responsible for its continued success and for maintaining the basic philosophy of the league: To promote the concepts of self-discipline, team spirit, sportsmanship, safety and above all to have fun. They have each coached several teams in the league and each has worked hard to develop and maintain a positive working relationship between Football Niagara and the Hamilton Tiger Cats. Rick was the recipient of the Doug Austin Award in 1999 and the McMaster University High School Coach of the year in 2009. Over 8000 young people, 7-14 years of age have played for Football Niagara. Many received individual awards for their involvement in high school football and rugby. Many also went on to play football and rugby at the university level including four young men from Niagara Falls who received Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All Star Awards and three of those who also received Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All Star Awards. The contribution these men have made to the youth of Niagara for the past 15 years is immeasurable.
