Feb 26,1747); son of Elizabeth (nee Heath) and Nathaniel Pettit; Lambertville, New Jersey; 1760 appointed Judge in Court of Common Pleas by Governor Franklin; Jan 1776 hailed before the Committee of Safety because of refusal to pay taxes levied by Congress and fined , disarmed and relieved of judgeship; commissioned by British to establish a Battalion; after war he went to Canada and petitioned for land; settled in Ancaster; 1788 commissioned as Justice of the Peace for Nassau; 1789 appointed to Nassau Land Board; 1792 elected to First Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada;
