Dec 5,1842 (Oakville Cemetery); husband of Barbara McKenzie (m. 1778); father of Janet, Mary Christina Land, John, James, William McKenzie, Barbara King, George, Christina Griggs and Nancy; 1773 emigrated from Scotland to America, New York, with his brother John; served during Revolutionary War under General Burgoynes and taken prisoner at Saratoga; after war transported to Nova Scotia and settled on farm near Shelbourne; aboned farm and took his wife and 6 children to Niagara to join his brother John; Mar 25,1793 land petition; 1793 together with George King purchased 900 acres in East Flamborough; one of earliest settler on the shore of Burlington Bay; negotiated treaties with Indians on behalf of British Government; at age 76 yrs served together with his 3 sons in War of 1812;
