(Militia); transferred from infantry to Artillery; Aug 5,1914 enlisted for overseas with 7th Battery, C.F.A.; mobilized for overseas as a unit in the 3rd Artillery Brigade; on Salisbury Plain the 1st Canadian Division was formed and he reverted to rank of lieutenant to go France with this division in Feb 1915; served 26 months in Belgium and France; 1915 - Fleurbaix, Laventie, Neuve Chapelle, 2nd Battle of Ypres, Festuvert, Givenchy, Ploegsteert, Kemmel Messines, Bois Grenier; 1916 - Ypres salient, Mt. Sorrel, Sanctuary Wood, Zillebeke, Hill 60, Blauport Farm, Menin Rd., the Somme, Thiepval, Mouquet Fram, Poziers, Leipsig Redoubt, Courcelette, Regina Trench, Grandcourt; at the Somme contracted trench fever and returned to Canada after protracted period in English hospital; in Canada commanded 63rd Battery at London, ON; later commanded No. 1 Artillery Depot at Guelph until demobilization of overseas forces in Canada;
