Feb 23,1800); father of Anna, Sophia Cummings, Margaret Kirby, William, Hannah Nelles, James II, John Smith, Mary, Oliver Tiffany, Thomas Clark and Charlotte Smith Macklem; son of William Macklem; first settled in Pennsylvania; ca. 1791 arrived in Chippawa; established Macklem's Tavern, a General Store and Mercantile Business; extensive milling and distilling business; 1794 appointed Lieutenant of Militia; served in 1812 as Capt. in the 2nd Lincoln Regiment; 1834-ca.1836 Clerk of Willoughby Township;
