- en-CA b. Sep 14,1753 [1763] (Scotland); d. Mar 8,1809 (buried in Hamilton Burial Ground in Queenston); ca. 1770 immigrated to Canada; 1st wife: Catherine (w. Robertson; nee Askin) (m. ca 1785 in Detroit); 2nd wife: Mary Herkimer (w. McLean); father of Robert Jr., George, James, Alexander, Samuel and daughter Jean (all by 1st wife) as well as of Joseph, Peter Hunter, John and Mary (by 2nd wife); 3rd son of Jean (nee Wight) and Rev. John Hamilton; 1791 built house in Queenston which is thought to have been 2st stone house built in Niagara; considered the founding father of Queenston; 1787-91 member of the Land Board and first Judge of the District of Nassau; 1792-1808 Lieutenant for Lincoln County; 1792- death Member of First Legislative Council for Upper Canada; by 1790s established warehouse, landing, store, tannery and distillery; at time of death he owned upwards of 100,000 acres of land;
