Jennings); father of Eliza (by 1st wife); 2nd son of Jemima (nee Wilcox) and Elijah Phelps Sr.; one of 6 brothers, including Othniel, and 3 sisters; served in Revolutionary War on American Side but became disenchanted and enlisted with Butler's Rangers under Mohawk Chief Joseph Brant; 1778 served in McDonell's Company; 1783 came to Upper Canada; 1794 Lieut. In 2nd Regiment, Lincoln Militia; settler on Niagara River; 1833 & 1835 Warden for Pelham Township;
