(Butler's Rangers); lieutenant in British Army for 70 yrs.; His Majesty's Commissioner for Indians affairs; 1755 nominated Captain in Indian Dept.; served under Abercromby at Ticonderoga; served with Bradstreet at capture of Fort Frontenac; Lieut.-Col. of Col. Guy Johnson's regiment of militia; judge at County Court; his father, an Irish subaltern, came with his regiment to America;
